I purchased a brand new DTV receiver just prior to the season and it worked like a charm at my tailgates. If you have a SWM box you will need to make sure to have the SWM power adapter that connects to the box and your dish coax. Finding the standard definition sat's are easy but the HD sat's can be a little harder to reel in on the setups with a dish on a tripod but certainly doable.

Can I buy a regular slimline satellite off of amazon? Will that work with my new box?

Slimline should work as that is what I have. You will just need to make sure during initial setup of the box that the correct type of dish is chosen when prompted. The new but much more expensive auto-find satellite dishes are the way to go but again they are very expensive if you want a HD signal through DTV.
