Another location other than Baton Rouge could have been chosen.

UF handling of this entire situation was piss poor and that is being nice.

Things could have been totally different if early in the week Foley comes out and says: We are aware of the potential for Hurricane Mathew to affect the scheduled game this weekend and are working with LSU, the SEC, and local authorities.

By Wednesday he could have come out and said we are looking at alternatives for game as far as times and locations but we are still optimistic that we will have a game in Gainesville.

Today he could have come out and said that many alternatives have been looked at, but do to the uncertainty around the projected forecast path and the potential for damages to the area of a Category 4 hurricane we will continue the monitor the situation. However, the game will most likely have to be postponed until a later date which we will be working with LSU and the SEC to make it happen.

Instead what happened was nothing to worry about game is on schedule until less than forty eight hours before game time I still that game I still postponed. Foley then goes on to lie that LSU was given an alternative and refused.

So understand why LSU fans are pissed. Not playing benefits Florida and hurts LSU.

Stay safe Florida. I hope everyone is spared from damage and harm with the exception of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, I hope that the gators can't play a game there for at least two years because of the way that the UF administration handled this situation.

Great post & points and I agree the situation could have been handled much better than it was.

As for an alternative, the pickings are very slim. The state of Florida is tough to play in obviously with the storm. Tampa would have been the best place but USF already has a game Saturday. Birmingham might have been about the only other alternative but that might as well be a home game (well, it would be mostly dead in general, but more purple/gold than orange/blue) and play it in TS. Nobody from Florida is going to be able make the drive on that short notice I wouldn't think and it's not a day trip like it would be for most of you fans.

I can't think of another good place that would work. I imagine even if it wasn't said, that it was obvously considered.

Also, the worst part of this is that the storm just shifted and isn't expected to make land. The outer bands can do damage but it (hopefully) doesn't create the havoc that was projected. Rough break that Florida waited and waited and waited and less than 8 hours after calling the game, we get a change that everyone was hoping for. F-ing figures.

Could have played in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, or Mobile. All places that had venues open.

With people having to evacuate the State of Florida all were viable alternatives. No where in the state of Florida should have been realistically been considered with the unknown predictably of this storm. If you read the press release from the SEC apparently no other venues outside the state of Florida was considered.

There's at least 8 college football stadiums in Alabama, another 5 in Mississippi, and 10 in Louisiana.

Gainesville is 1 hour further from Birmingham than Baton Rouge. 6:45 vs 5:45. What part of that is a day trip for Tiger fans?
