I've rooted strongly against the Cubs ever since the Bartman incident.
A good friend of mine says the same thing. I absolutely cannot condone what happened in the immediate aftermath to Bartman, but I'm an SEC fan who has been to every SEC football venue and beyond. I've seen loooots of uncivilized everywhere.
Booze and youth mixed with high emotion, and a literal unprecedented confluence of events that never happened before an will almost certainly never happen again triggered an ugly scene carried out by a minority. Never seen or heard of anything even remotely close to that ever happening before or since.
You and my friend have chosen to see this as an indictment of the Cubs and all Cub fans. That's your right. I can say all of my reasons for hating various teams vary so I can't begrudge.

I fall into the category with the OP, and I was a Cubs fan. Not a diehard MLB fan, but I've been to Wrigley and used to really wish the Cubbies could win at least a pennant. After the Bartman thing, and subsequently the documentaries about that game and its aftermath, I wish the fans of Chicago teams nothing but losses from here on out. The way the people (grown men and women, btw) treated him in the moment, and afterward, is sickening. To take a human being and squeeze him into some kind of curse narrative, then to not feel a whole lot of shame about it is beyond cruel and pathetic. There seemed to be a little empathy for him, but most would rather hold on to the curse storyline. That goes for the people interviewed in the documentaries who were sitting right next to him and were attempting to do the same thing as he did.
frick the Cubs
frick the Cubs

Yeah I wonder what would happen if LSU was playing in the national championship and (i know this can't happen) a fan interfered with an LSU TD catch that would have sealed the game, and then they went on to lose. I'm sure the LSU fans would be nice and respectful. Hell the band can't even play songs now because they can't refrain from chanting "suck that tiger dick"
