Coaching vs talent

I use to argue that if I had to take top talent vs top coaching, I'd take the talent, but after last night and how Miles/Cameron have not utilized our 4/5* athletes, it's clearly evident that a strong coaching staff can defeat top talent or poor coaching means nothing without the proper leadership!
What a complete 180 in just 5 days of work!!!
The you're looks bright! GEAUX tigers!

Mullen & Petersen took 3* and coached them up to 5* levels. Les was doing the reverse. Good coaching any day.

How can people watch games like the Boise St/Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl and think that talent always trumps coaching?
You need a certain combination of both. A JUCO team coached by Bill Walsh, Bill Belichick, and Nick Saban is not beating a team riddled with future NFL draft picks.
One of the big things that has transpired in recent years is the outspread of talent. More athletes are better conditioned and trained now than twenty years ago. Most of this is due to the various offseason camps high school players participate in and the general advancement of sports performance training, nutrition, and lifting knowledge and availability.
There isn't quite the massive talent gap between most FBS teams as some would have you believe.
However, putting your players in the right position to make plays will usually trump freakish athleticism and instinct.

An important part of coaching is letting your talented players shine. You teach them the game and situational awareness in practice and on game day just manage it. Basically don't get in the way on game day

+1 ...meet the players at their level and bring them up.
GOOD Coaches know how to adjust to players' abilities

We have the talent. We always have. They have been handcuffed for years though
