The circumstances are not ideal, but rarely if ever they really are in this type of situation. Since he stayed to coach this year, thinking just about Miles it was actually better for him to do it now than later. Scoring 13 points a game this season was heading to a complete disaster. He ended up 2-0 at home, winning his last home game. He didn’t really feel an all-out negativity in Tiger Stadium. It saved him a lot of boos and negative moments. He still has a lot of good will gained through the years, the longer he stayed at this point the more negative the whole environment would have been.
