He was. He turned OSU into a respectable program. Before he got there they had 1 winning season from 1987-2002.

He was not known to be a great recruiter until he came here...which proves LSU does recruit itself. Not saying we don't need a guy who can recruit but it's much easier to get top recruits here than most schools

That's great... BUT He had the benefit of Saban brining LSU to a top 5 program...... I DO NOT CARE what Saban's record was while he was here... He put LSU on the MAP way better than ANY coach before him....
