Just think how ridiculous this whole thing is. They're dicking around with guns that, at least for some, have decades of R&D. The brass never waste an opportunity to get a new toy.

It is. The M9A3 should have been selected given any objective reasoning. The fact that existing inventories of some parts could be used and little extra training for armorers all while getting the new guns cheaper than current M9A1's should have been a no-brainer.
