I'm not saying we can't be critical, make jokes, etc., just remember that there are 18-22yo LSU players reading this board, Twitter, etc. These guys are out there busting their asses every day to be the best they can.

Dude, you do realize that this "kid" is over the age of 18 and has been making "grown up" decisions for some time now, right?? I am in my 20s so calling him a kid is actually an insult from my point of view because I wouldn't want other dudes calling me a frickin kid lol

The only way I would understand any of the sympathy for an athlete is if they were playing high school football. THOSE are kids not a 20 year old that lives in a college dorm and plays for LSU.

It's super simple. You will compete all of your life to get better at various things including your job, your home, and your life. In particular, football is a team/internal competition of who is the better athlete for their specific position. If you are not competing at a higher level than the guy that is trailing your coat tail, then I nor anyone should feel bad for you because that is just the way it goes and the best players should get on the field. Plain and simple.

TL;DR 20 year olds are not "kids" & competition wins

I think many of you are missing the point. This isn't about feeling bad for Harris because he lost the starting job. It's about having a little sympathy considering what he's going through on the outside and how it affects him on the inside.

The other issue I have is all the comments that are essentially "welcome to the real world." Nothing about this situation is anywhere close to the real world. The average 20 year old doesn't have his career flame out in front of 70k of his supporters and 900k people watching from home. The average 20 year old doesn't walk away to a chorus of boos from those "supporters", get death threats because of his performance, have national television shows criticize his performance, wade through baseless insults on social media, etc.

Do I wish he would have handled this better in public? Yes, certainly. Does it change the fact that I'm sympathetic to what he has to deal with as a result of failing on such a large and public stage despite his best efforts to win for the team we all love? No, no it does not.
