Small generator pushing battery pack and inverter?

Not knowledgeable about this stuff but was wondering if you can build a system using a small generator to charge a battery pack leading to a large inverter. Trying to design something as a backup electrical source for the home.

Possible but likely not feasible. LARGE inverter needs LARGE battery bank.

It is feasible...but crazy expensive.

Crazy Expensive for sure..LOL
Cool link but that's based on a solar system which also requires battery storage which is where the real costs comes in for heavy loads with inverters. A small system for the basics like lights can be done fairly cheap.

Might want to look into how some RV's handle this. There are many rv's built for camping national parks where they can't run gens through the night.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like all options have major defects (cost, reliability...etc.).

Actually it is crazier than that, at the start of the video it shows that it uses both solar and grid power to run the house (along with battery storage). You can charge the battery from the grid, solar or the car (acting as a generator).
They are also working on a system that uses electricity to pump water into a pressure vessel for potential energy storage, then releasing the water to turn a pelton turbine/generator for power production during peak hours.
So, you don't need an inverter at all...just a ton of space for water storage, high pressure pumps and large pressure vessels. Well...that isn't very cheap, either.
