Do not go to DC and miss Arlington Cemetary. I recommend taking the trolley thing around because it's very hilly inside the Cemetary. Even if you go just to watch the changing of the guard it's worth the trip.
Definitely doing Arlington. Figured we'd go on Christmas Day. I heard the trolley thing isn't running Christmas Day though. We figured we'd either take Metro or Uber and walk to Changing of the Guard. I read it isn't a far walk.

It's not far at all. Maybe about 15 minutes max from the Visitors Center. The weather will be cooler so it'll be nicer walk I imagine than the one I took a few weeks ago.

The walk isn't difficult if you are in even decent shape. Oprah could do it.
While you are walking through though make sure you go up to Arlington House (R.E. Lee/wife's house) for the view back to Lincoln and the Mall. Read up on the history of the place, why union soldiers were buried in the garden, and check out Kennedy's grave.
Also, while walking the Mall make sure you stop at the Korean War Memorial. A lot of people skip it and only go to the Vietnam Wall on the other side of the Mall, but both are worth your time and should be seen.
