I didn't see it until you mentioned it. I saw him recite the story of the cane/cobblestone scene in that interview I watched yesterday.

Fair enough. I don't necessarily disagree with that. And, as far as we know, all the kids died (and Mr. Salt). He may have told Charlie what Charlie wanted to hear. I mean, he made them sign releases for a reason.

I had a friend who always thought Wonka was evil and all the kids died.

One of the many many many things I hated about the remake was at the end, seeing the kids off in the distance so you know they were all alive.
