Feel free to elaborate on how this $230k 1900 sqft home just 12 miles from downtown Austin/UT/large tech industry is a POS when compared to a typical 1900 sqft home in plain cookie cutter neighborhoods in Watson and Walker that are 25 miles from BR/LSU/hospitals/plants.

LINK

Or this home, built in 2014, with better schools than any public school districts in Louisiana that is 21 miles from DT Austin and even closer to the tech parks in north ATX and Round Rock? It's only $102/sqft which gives room for updates.

LINK

That home would be $25k more in Watson after the flood. WATSON for Christ's sake.

First of all property taxes on that 230K home in texas will run you around 8-9K a year...while in Denham Springs they would be less than 2K....so there's that.

Second, don't be so quick to dig on Watson or other communities like it. Live Oak Schools are every bit as good (especially demographics) when compared to these schools on the outskirts of Austin. I haven't checked the test scores of each but that doesn't necessarily tell the whole story. Zachary has the best test scores in the state and with the recent demographic changes there I would be hesitant to head in that direction.

I'm sure that your rebuttal will touch on the lack of income taxes here but unless your household income is greater than 150k a year the Louisiana route is cheaper..

Basically, Louisiana housing is more affordable for the lower income worker when property taxes are also considered.

Lastly, you mentioned "cookie cutter" neighborhoods in Watson....what's funny is the houses you just put up in those links are the definition of cookie cutter....pressboard cabinets with carpet/tile floors in that price range bud.

Maybe but doubtful.

Absolutely.

Im not talking about low income housing. A low income person by BR standards shouldn't be spending $230k on a home 20+ miles from their job site.

A person performing your typical white collar job in Austin will make at least a few grand more, btw.

Yeah, you might have the demographics part right if you love you some white people, but don't fool yourself into believing that just because people pimp these school systems as being among the best in the state that they are really anything special.
