I've been waiting for around 10 months for the airbag replacement on two Subarus. There are tens of millions of these things under recall and it's affected many of the major OEMs. And it seems like more are being added every week. Type "Takata recall" into your Google machine to learn more.
As for the OPs situation, I don't know. But years ago, I had a vehicle damaged by a fire in a garage and their insurance covered that. This is a new one on me though. You may have said and I missed it, but what is the dealership saying to you?

A little more detail:
Yes the dealer gave us a Loaner back in May. I was very appreciative of that. If it was my car then I probabbly would have driven it until the part came in. In fact I did do that for my Honda. This was my wife's car that she drives the kids around in. Probability of something happening was very minute but if something happened and that airbag hurt my wife or my kids I couldn't lie with myself. That's why I opted for the loaner.
Still waiting for an adjuster, but will probabbly go car shopping tommorow to see what she likes.

Dealership has been very responsive. I am awaiting for their insurance companies Apprasior which is a pain. One of the Managers had mentioned that they thought there was a possibility that The manufacturer was going to help takata owners who were flooded, but in all of my calls to the manufacturer I. Cannot find anyone else to confirm this.
