A week in Napa or Sonoma?

The wife and I are planning a trip to wine country in October and I'm having a hard time deciding which region to choose. Planning seven days with two in San Francisco to hit a few highlights and then spending the rest in wine country. I'm not a sommelier or wine expert. I know the basics and not sure what to expect in the tastings or tours. Thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.
