i responded to the guy that said he was a top 5 player. I dont know where hitting came in from that.

how is that?

I mean its not like he is Barry Bonds-good when he doesnt walk. Yea, im sure you'll cite runs created but that is a walk heavy stat. The guy is an excellent hitter, but i think he misses on opportunities to make more things happen by being so selective. If he played on a better team the fruits of his labor would be more widely accepted. But frick, you are on the Reds. Swing the bat. Hit more HRs, drive more runs in. You're OBP can still hover around .400

i mean, you responded to barry's post which mentioned "hitters." it's not a big deal, though, i think we are all actually on the same page here.

that's just not who he is. he is an all time great at getting on base. that isn't going to change

I think the consensus would be Votto is top 5 strictly when considering hitting, but not top 5 overall.

Oh so you're one of those guys. I highly doubt you ever won anything of significance in baseball if you ever played at all because your coachesustbe been horrible. Any decent coach will tell you getting on base is the only job a batter has. Notated where you are in the lineup
