You don't know what you're talking about. It's true that it's easy to apply downward force because you have more surface area of your hand applying the force. But the best part is the torque. It's like using a wrench instead of a screwdriver to pop the hinge open. Then you just slide the oyster around to cut the top and bottom attachment points.

You must've had one with a larger gripe that allowed you to use the heel of your palm. They gave us ones exactly like in the one in your pic to use for a private party and we all switched back to knives in 30min. Just not the same precision or speed
