What makes for a better secondary . better cover safetys or cover linebackers.

In a zone scheme. I would think having 2 safetys who can cover like corners would be ideal but I could also see where having linebackers good enough in coverage that you don't have to leave your base defense as,much would be a plus too. Your thoughts.

I'd say safeties, that way you don't get beat deep. I'd rather contain everything in front of me then get beat deep.

You can make a solid argument nickle is a base defense for a lot of teams now.

I'll go with safeties. My thinking is if you can take away the deep ball, you can afford to play more aggressive underneath.
If the offense can take the top off of the defense, then they can pretty much do what they want elsewhere.
