I realize these things are improving tens of thousands of lives, but I also feel like there may be some scam to the industry at this point. You hardly ever hear of anyone who gets the study and doesn't have one recommended.

That's because doctor's don't usually recommend a sleep study for someone that they are not fairly certain, has sleep apnea.

Because most people that get tested for it are having symptoms of sleep apnea. If everyone was getting tested as part of a routine exam, then of course the diagnosis rate from people getting sleep studies would go down.
