Merry Christmas! The TD Fantasy FA Cup is finally here.
While the FA Cup has been a longstanding tradition in English football, we are finally debuting the first FA Cup in our board's history in the fifth year of this fantasy league. I will be posting all FA Cup information concurrently in both TD Fantasy threads.
The TD Fantasy FA Cup will be a single-elimination competition between the two leagues. In the case of a tie, there will be a replay. We will only play in weeks where all 20 Premier League teams have one match apiece. If there are not ten fixtures with a balanced Premier League week, then our FA Cup will be delayed in order to preserve our competitive balance. Please alert if I end up scheduling an FA Cup in an unbalanced week of the Premier League schedule.
The tournament will conclude with an FA Cup Final in Week 37 (the fantasy regular season ends in Week 36 in order to create a balanced schedule). The schedule and round one fixtures can be found below.
In order to participate, all you have to do is score your match-up as normal. I will track all results to see who advances. As FA Cup commissioner, I will be randomly selecting fixtures through a random schedule generator tool online.
The Championship sides will enter the FA Cup in the First Round. Nine Premier League sides will enter the FA Cup in the Second Round. As defending Premier League champ, The Mick will enter the FA Cup in the Quarterfinal round. In the instance of future FA Cups, the FA Cup winner will enter in the Quarterfinal round.
First Round (Week 18, replay Week 19):
Randomly drawn fixtures between the ten Championship teams will result in five teams moving on to the Second Round. Fifteen clubs will remain.
First Round fixture list:
St. Augustine vs. arse
AZBayouBengal07 vs. leoj
kilo vs. lsu31always
5 Deep vs. LSU Red24
LSUSOBEAST vs. DB10_AFC
Second Round (Week 22, replay Week 23):
Randomly drawn fixtures between the First Round winners and nine Premier League sides (The Mick is excluded) will result in seven teams moving on to the Quarterfinals. Eight clubs will remain.
FA Cup Quarterfinal (Week 27, replay Week 28):
Randomly drawn fixtures between the Second Round winners and The Mick will result in four teams moving on to the Semi-finals. Four clubs will remain.
FA Cup Semi-final (Week 32, replay Week 33):
Randomly drawn fixtures between the Quarterfinal winners will result in two teams moving on to the Finals. Two clubs will remain.
FA Cup Final (Week 37, replay Week 38):
One fixture between the Semi-final winners will result in the FA Cup Champion. One club will remain.
