ESPN Power 5 offensive efficiency last 3 years

I think this is interesting and it's a reminder to me how we often view LSU in a vacuum and that everything's better everywhere else and some offenses that are "pretty" aren't necessarily efficient.
I used last three years to coincide with Cam Cameron's arrival.
ESPN's offensive efficiency ranks are based on the point contributions of each unit to the team's scoring margin, on a per-play basis. The values are adjusted for strength of schedule and down-weighted for "garbage time" (based on win probability). The scale goes from 0 to 100; higher numbers are better and the average is roughly 50 for all categories. Efficiencies update daily during the season.
LINK
In 2015, LSU was 17th on offense and 21st on defense
In 2014, LSU was 44th on offense and 13th on defense.
In 2013, LSU was 7th on offense and 39th on defense.
Averages over the last 3 years: LSU is 23rd on offense and 24th on defense.
Offenses that have better averages than LSU on offense over last three years (Power 5 conferences): Oregon - 3; Baylor - 5; Ohio State - 10; Alabama - 10; Stanford - 18; Texas Tech - 21; Notre Dame - 22; Florida State - 22

Eyeball test says something different than info these stats are displaying.

Turning the ball over must play a big part in the efficiency rating. We hardly turned the ball over, but we couldn't really score either.

I'd like to see it only versus teams with winning records.
BTW, not surised with defense rankings. Haven't been close to elite on D since about 2011.

that's because LSUs offense is awesome. They shouldn't change a thing. Numbers never lie. It hasn't worked last 5 years against Bama but I feel the tide turning

But you really make my point in that we LSU fans scrutinize our team much more than we do other teams and watch every single play and every mistake.

Efficiency is a tricky stat in Football. It hinges on the TD to turnover ratio. In that regard, yes LSU's offense has been ok. The problem is, offensive efficiency doesn't take into account passing efficiency, which is where the problem has been since Mett left.

The eyetest is dumb because its rarely used with an unbiased view.
If you watched our 2015 offense and your EYES came away with the opinion that we werent productive then you know you cant trust your eyetest.
I do find it quite comical that these stats were touting and posted ad nauseum when they showed our offense as putridn theh were used right up until the moment that the lsu offense became productive and then all that mattered was the good ole eyeball test. Yep the eyetest. That test that cant be refuted because its not grounded in facts.

One day people will realize that average stats don't paint the whole picture. Not even close. Post what we do against the SEC West

Probably because the top 10 teams in fewest giveaways last year had a combined record of 82-47 and every single team finished with a winning record.

We've had the lead against Bama the last 2 times at home only for our defense to blow it. It goes both ways. They ran at will on us last year too

Bama vs sec
417 ypg
Lsu vs sec
402 ypg
They each played 2 teams that the other program didnt play.
Bama played
1.lsu 23rd ranked defense
2. Tenn 37th ranked defense
Lsu played
1. Bama 1st ranked defense
2. Florida 7th ranked defense
Are you saying 15 yards is the difference between creative and shite?

That's fine but what would all of the so-called great offenses do playing game after game in the SEC West. I understand LSU's in the SEC West so that's all that matters but put last year's offense in the Big 12 and it's 40 ppg-plus.

Man where do you guys get this stuff?
LSU WAS 3RD IN THE SEC IN OFFENSIVE TDS PER GAME AND 3RD IN THE SEC IN OFFENSIVE POINTS PER GAME

I agree with your point. Another issue is that in close games the difference can simply be who made two or three critical plays that never show up in the average stats. That is what I will judge this team by. When you have people on the field who will make game winning plays or knockout plays against the stoutest competition then you will see a NC competitor.
Last year I saw LF, Guice, and Adams play at that level. I am looking for Harris, Dupre, Dural, Beckwith, and White or Toliver to make that leap in performance this year. This is not to say they are doing badly but they become "go to" players in crunch time.

The offense was acceptable before the 3 game skid.

Harris was having a really decent season for a YOUNG AND inexperienced (for you altiger) qb before his sports hernia. 9td-0ints and 2nd in the sec in qb rating. I also think Cam and Miles had planned to use the zone read a good bit once we got into the meat of the sec schedule and once Harris got knicked up it threw that out the window.
