It's perfectly natural to feel guilty for "not being out there"
It happens to most veterans.
As with anything in life, Don't jump off the cliff if you are not 100% committed to diving in
If you have truly done what was spoken about here (survive 14 tours) then I would say it is high time for you to train the next generation. You have a WEALTH of knowledge that must be passed on.
I am truly sorry about your brother, may he find peace in God's arms.

Very true. My last enlistment was up only a few months before 9/11. When it happened I came within a whisper of going and joining back up. The main thing that stopped me was the fact my wife was only a couple months from giving birth to our first child. Looking back, I still feel pangs of guilt for not going back, despite the fact I'd already fought one war in 91.
But I also know I'm the end it was the right decision because had I rejoined I'd have missed most of my son growing up and possibly not even been around for us to have our daughter in 08.
