Please tell me more about my advantage and non-white disadvantage. It had nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with doing what was necessary.

Again, you're missing the point. IF a black mother and son found themselves in the exact same predicament, for the two of them to succeed to the levels that you've attained, they would have had to overcome all of the things you and your mother did AND overcome the fact that they aren't white. Does that diminish anything you've done? No, of course not. Saying a black man would have to work a little bit harder than you did, or overcome one more disadvantage than you did, isn't a knock on you.

Let me give you an example. There has been talk lately about the lack of black coaches at the NFL level. Considering a large chunk of coaches are ex-players, and the fact that blacks make up a significant majority of the NFL, they're pretty severely underrepresented at the head coaching level, but the reasons for that have nothing to do with racism. All 31 owners and the Green Bay president are white. It is perfectly reasonable to expect them to associate with mostly white friends - we all do that with our respective race and class. Hiring and firing coaches in the NFL is largely subjective, and as a result, it is subject to natural biases like hiring the white coach out of two otherwise equally-qualified candidates. If qualification for the position cannot be quantified, which is seldom the case, then bias and human nature will creep into the picture.

The same is true for you and your mother. You don't owe anyone an apology, but trying to get jobs and opportunities in a mostly white work force is slightly more difficult if you're non-white. A non-white candidate has to create clear separation between himself and the field because if it comes down to "intangibles", they're unlikely to get the nod. I honestly don't understand why so many people have trouble grasping that concept.

We think that blacks are usually better players in football and basketball and everyone is ok without some quota needing to be met. But thinking that whites are better at coaching is taboo. Why? Because there just need to be x number of black coaches? Does there also need to be x number of white players? Sorry but this is a made up injustice that people are just looking to bitch about.
