It's likely the compressor clutch. The same thing went out on my '07 Civic. That was the diagnosis I got with 3 quotes ranging from $1200-$1600 for repair.
You could do it yourself for about $200, but you'll have take the front end off. Then you have to get the system flushed because when the clutch dies it can release metal shards.
