Torrents are weak. Usenet is really the way to go (I pay $6/mo). Best thing is traffic is SSL encrypted and it's not peer-to-peer, you go pretty much as fast as your internet will let you with little or no risk of being discovered.
If you are technical you can make the investment to buy a QNAP to store the media and install/setup web-based programs on the QNAP itself to manage all of your content. It automatically grabs stuff to download and sorts the media afterwards automatically. You can also do this on a home server if you have the spare hardware. There are tons of guides out there for setting up SABNZBD (downloader), Couchpotato (for movies), and Sonarr (for TV).
I made the up-front investment in a QNAP 3 years ago and haven't paid for a day of cable. I do admit I use my mother-in-law's directTV credentials for WatchESPN.
To everyone defending the cable companies and chastising the pirates of the interweb; the day they allow me to pay for exactly what channels/networks I want is the day I go back to cable. I refuse to fund networks that push whatever agendas they want to push while making money, hand over fist, from the general public.

My point is that at this point, you can purchase exactly whatever content you want. There are services out there that allow this. There is still some fine tuning of it, especially with sports, but pretty much everything else is available a la carte. Your argument defending pirating is pretty close to being completely out of date and will soon finally be completely out of date.

Where do you think the money comes from to mke shows like Game of Thrones, The Wire, Breaking Bad, etc?
Not from the $6 you pay to illegally obtain their content through some undetectable site. You don't like Cox? Fine, go pay $40/month for Playstation VUE. Something tells me you're not really on some crusade though, and really just want free content.
