re: What are police trained to do if a person says they have a gun?

Last year I was stopped and his second question was -you have anything in the car I need to know about? I told him about my gun and where it was. I Stayed by his Tahoe where he said. He got it out unloaded it, called it in. All was cool he reloaded it put it back where it was. He thanked me for being honest and said if ever stopped anywhere to let the officer know asap of the gun ,permit, etc.
