IMO, Cutoff is a hell of a run for your first time. You pass a lot of prime redfishing to get there. Someone correct me if Im wrong but this time of the year, Id be hitting rigs/MRGO in open water then skirting Stump and close in marsh for reds on the way back.

You're correct. That's where I run a lot during November- February for the winter trout and reds.

OP, Don't think you will find much of nothing to warrant making that run for summer fishing. Usually even in early winter trout aren't that far north in the marsh yet.

I have never fished that area either. What are some good spots for reds this time of year? I don't want to make quite the run the OP does so I'm looking for some closer spots especially if it's windy. Is Stump Lagoon good for reds? TIA!!
