Yes he is.
In the original you were watching a group of people in a universe react to that universe. The humor and jokes came from situations and interactions between the characters. All of the characters in the original seemed like real people. And their reactions seemed genuine.
I'd bet this movie has alot or moments where the cast is clearly talking to the audience or acting so far out of character that the scene is unbelievable. Like their reactions and actions are so outlandish is basically cartoonishly stupid and not realistic. It's a crutch that's become very prevalent in shitty written comedies since 2000.
It's a fair criticism, and one people have been saying since the previews.
