"The First Tycoon: The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt" by TJ Stiles. Interesting, but I'm only about halfway through.
I finally read "With The Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge last weekend. Terribly depressing, but just a terrific book. Everyone should read it. It really illustrates what meat grinders places like Peliliu and Okinawa were. If I remember correctly, of 235 Marines in Sledge's rifle company who landed at Peliliu, only 26 were still fighting when K/3/5 left Okinawa. And of those 26, several had been wounded or evacuated for illness and later returned to duty. Sledge was one of only a handful of men who wasn't a casualty. Great book!
