The fireworks have become a lot more popular. More and more locals (the good kind) go downtown for the 4th now.
Other than being hot as hell, it's a pretty good time.

Essence isn't near as bad as many around here make it out to be.

The fireworks show is on two separate barges - one in front of Jax Brewery, and the other close to the Convention Center and the bridge.
This splits the crowds between the two areas.

Essence Crowd > Bayou Classic Crowd - not that those two festivals are related in any way....

Most of the Essence crowd watches the fireworks from the Convention Center area.

The French Quarter crowd is about the same as it is any other weekend.
