We for sure go back to England and Scotland in the 1500's. The unofficial family historian claims to have traced us back to a tribal chieftain who raided the borders of the Roman Empire, but I'm kind of dubious about that.

This is going to turn into another OT thing where everybody is descended from royalty.

Everyone most likely is. For most of history the people at the top of society out-bred people at the bottom. Over time that meant the king had a lot more descendants than his contemporaries.

20% of Irishmen are direct male descendants of Niall. Presidential candidates typically have a royal ancestor if you go back far enough.

In a sense it's a very good bet that you are. Think of how much your family tree grows exponentially with each generation you go back. It's completely reasonable that someone somewhere in your family tree was descendent of royalty even if they didn't even sniff a throne themselves.
