For me the TV coverage is way over the top. They started to cater to the female viewership a long time ago.

They of course started to show more rhythmic dancing sort of stuff, but it was the constant up close and personal stories about every athlete that gets to me. Every store is a sob story, "his sister lost two fingers from freezer burn because she ate too much gelato" or "her mom got clotheslined by a clothesline and lost her hearing".

They also constantly tease you about an event that is coming up. "Stay tuned we will be right back with more commercials and sob stories" before you get to see something worth anything.

Yes the TV coverage has reached a saturation point. But those are pretty smart folks who do tons of research about what sells...

Some great points have been made.
