About 20 yrs ago driving down gravel road in 1972 International Scout headed to deer stand before daylight. This was our camp vehicle so the Scout was not well maintained and the brakes were almost non existent. Those things were solid tanks and we had this huge steel bumper on the front. As I'm clipping down the road I see what I think is a dog slowly running down the side of the road about 50 yards ahead of me. I was late getting to my stand so I didnt slow down and decided just to pass it. Just as I start to pass it, this little spike stops and turns his body perpendicular to the vehicle. I slam the brakes but they hardly work and as I start to slow down the deer just stands there. As Im slowing the front bumper makes contact with just his head. I look back after I hit him and I could see him wobbling off. he looked like a heavy weight boxer in the 12th. But he lived and wandered off all staggering and looking drunk.
