Kick starter projects

I made a "donation" to a kick starter project very late in the 3rd quarter of 2015. The "estimated" date that I was informed by the company that I would receive my order would be December 2015.
Fast forward to today, no product has been received, however plenty of excuses have been offered.
The company that I "donated" to is not willing to refund me back my money, because they state that I received a "significant" discount ($55 off MSRP when ordered; today the price they are asking is actually less than what I paid for it) and no taxes were charged (not sure how this is relevant).
They state that I had an opportunity to cancel while the campaign was "live." At that time, I had no reason to suspect there would be an issue, based upon the estimated delivery date. The company states they simply have no way to refund me my money.
Thoughts on next steps? I have a couple of solutions that I will pursue, but I'd like to hear what WWYD and if waiting 177 days since the estimated delivery date is being "unreasonable" by me.

did you pay for it with a credit card?

Yes. I just got off the phone with my CC company and am now in the process of disputing the transaction.

If it's truly a donation, why would they be obligated to refund your dumb arse?

should be sufficient. You paid for a product that was never delivered. CC company will refund you back your money

It's not truly a donation if the recipient agrees to provide an item in return for the start up money.

The company calls it a "donation." This is their term. I have no problem "donating" providing I received the product I purchased.
I fulfilled my obligation. I paid for the merchandise and paid my credit card provider upon receipt of my CC statement. Unfortunately, they haven't which is why I posed the question if I am being "unreasonable" in terms of estimated delivery date.
Now go back behind the keyboard and use "big and bad" words like dumb arse in another thread.

And THIS is exactly why I despise Kickstarter and other such vehicles.
There was a time and day when true entrepreneurs birthed an idea, mortgaged their souls to build a company and then brought a product to market for sale. That is the spirit that made America great.
Now every asshat with an "idea" runs out and begs for donations to make their idea into a product.
The danger to the consumer is exactly what you are seeing here. An idea, no matter how good, doesn't make a marketable product and you really have no idea of the business acumen of the person to whom you are donating. It sounds a lot like they wont' refund your money because they probably don't have it. Dollars to donuts they have blown it on salaries, a nice office or unanticipated manufacturing costs.

Something like 80% of kickstarter projects don't meet their anticipated ship dates. I think a lot of it has to do with the creators not being well-versed in everything that goes into mass producing their product.
That said, you should dispute. The two items I've supported were both delayed a good bit, but many times throughout the process the seller let people cancel their order, plenty of heads up before the manufacturer couldn't alter the order.

First and only time I have "donated" to a kick starter project. And as of now, it will be my last time too.

The manufacturer has not been timely with updates and has not followed through with what has been posted on their FB page either.
I've lost all confidence in them and their ability to be able to deliver a quality product that they can support after its release, whenever that is.

It's not a donation.
In most cases, you're buying a product for future delivery.

What project did you sponsor?

Just curious...what product was it? Did it have anything to do with cooking?

Are we talking a nice sum of money or is the principle?

Just over $200.00.
Money is long gone and paid for. It's more about principle now.
