What about monitor wise? Just phone, tablet, or dedicated monitor?

foscams have everything built into the camera for DVR-ing but its not the most intuitive thing. this includes setting 'movement zones', emailing you still images, recording only when activity occurs, etc.
however they bought 'blue iris' (i think thats the name) which is a great piece of software to manage this but it will run you about $30 or so.

I have a Foscam in my daughter's room. I mostly use my laptop, and my wife mostly uses an old nook color. The camera has a web server so that you can use most browsers to view it, and there are plenty of IP cam viewer apps that you can install on a phone or tablet.
I strongly recommend a camera that has pan/tilt functionality. We have the camera in the corner at the foot of the bed. I often pan the camera to other parts of the room when she's awake.
