I guess, but perhaps I'm just misunderstanding your point. You've already said you'd never hit a woman, so surely you have some reason to have that belief. I think that's the difference. A good man can probably avoid the situation altogether, and if it can't be avoided, the situation in the OP doesn't cross the threshold where punches from the man are required.
