I used to launch here all the time but I've heard you can't launch here anymore. Is this true? If so where would you all launch to get to the trestles? Rigolets marina?

Ah so is it just that they don't sell live shrimp there anymore?

Correct. The marina is no longer operable, but you can launch your boat there. It is a damn shame that they let the marina get to this situation. It is my understanding that the owner is a complete dickhead that no tenant wants to deal with.

This is true. Chaz Champagne - of Matrix Shad fame - ran the bait store there and the owner saw how much he was making and figured he could do it himself and keep all the profits. So when Chaz's lease was up for renewal the owner jacked up his rate and Chaz left and took all of his equipment with him (it's all now at South Shore Bait & Marina at Chef Pass). The owner tried to run the bait shop himself for about 2 months and failed so he just put the drop box there and called it a day.

Unfortunately, this leaves trestles fisherman with a long run from Rigolets to get bait or closer launches with no bait. What I typically do is get shrimp at "The Bait Shop" on Hwy 11 (across from Times Grill/Train Station) and then go launch at Bayou Liberty Marina simply because I refuse to give the bastard at the Dock any business. There is an old abandoned launch at the north foot of the Hwy 11 bridge (Tite's Place). There's barely any parking. Most of it was just across the road from the launch but there's currently a construction crew there and the entire lot is blocked off. Plus, it's not very friendly to boats longer then 20' or so.

There is also a place on the South shore on Highway 11. It is called Del Lagos Marina. I never used them but they have a launch and the sign says they sell live bait.

Been there ONCE. The bait shop is only open on weekends IF THEY BOTHER TO EVEN GET BAIT. Closed mon-fri. Back down is extremely steep, making it difficult for re-trailering.

He is one of the biggest a holes I've ever met. I wish that whole operation would fail and someone else would buy it. The few times I've fished there I've launched out of lake Catherine. It give me a back up plan if the bridges don't produce

on the advice from a friend i launched here a few weekends ago. Pelican Pointe Marina. I had tried launching there a few times in the past but they were never open. Evidently a disgruntled ex employee dumped oil into their live bait tanks and shut them down for a while.

I was VERY impressed with the facility, launch, employees and live shrimp.

For $80 i got 150 live shrimp, 2 20# bags of ice and a launch.

Guys loaded the bags of ice into the boat and brought the bucket of live shrimp out to the boat once i launched. Very eager and nice guys. Very friendly and genuinely appreciated my business.

I will only launch here from now on instead of that googan zoo over at Rigolets.

same experience I had when I used that launch a few times this past winter. that guy made sure he brought the shrimp and ice to the boat when it was launched. great service and wasn't crowded. you couldn't pay me to launch at the rigolets marina again.

glad to hear it wasn't an isolated event. I was thinking no way these guys could keep up this good attitude slinging shrimp and ice all day every day. I also made sure to tip them like 8 bucks.

my dad started using it because he also hates rigolets, some of his buddies been using it so I went a few times and it's been a great experience each time. Launch is a little steep but Not an issue if you know how to launch boats. Overall I'd give them my business every time if I go fishing that way.

it is a little but those horizontal grooves cut into the pavement makes it a non issue for me.

That's largely accurate. Don't launch at the Dock.
