I bought into the hype of Sennheiser HD 650 two years ago, still haven't "broken in."
They are great for classical and bluegrass.
.
But suck for most classic rock...or a anything with strong bass. Very muted.

If your ears haven't broken in after two years, they never will.

I use Sennheiser Momentums and love them.
The bass is more subdued with a bigger focus on the mids though, so if you want something with more bass they probably aren't for you.
But then again you are asking for headphones for classic rock... and I think they are great for that genre of music.... because of the bass isn't jacked up.....

Get a closed back headphone--tighter low end.

Easy answer: Sony MDR-7506. Also know as the "V6".
Industry-standard pair of cans during that era, and they are still around.
