People get the ferber method and cry it out mixed up a lot. Ferber is the interval method that people swear by but often people call it cry it out. Some people get this wrong and let their kid cry for 5 hours at a time.

As an update to our earlier discussion, ferber couple has basically solved their kid's sleeping problem.
If my 2-year-old son was still a bad sleeper I'd lose my fricking mind.
