Doesn't look like any water snake I've ever seen.

Alx, I'm actually pretty stumped by this one. I think I'm changing my guess to Midland water snake. Or just plain Northern water snake, but Midland is a subspecies that looks a little closer. I'm focusing on the brownish triangular areas (between the black blotches/bands) with a black spot in the center of the base of the triangular areas, Still, the color looks atypical. I'd love to see a head shot and a ventral shot.
ETA: Whatever it is, it isn't anything I've seen before in my area and nothing I'd recognize on sight.
