I have a feeling that it's probably not that simple. The Others have been able to create more Others from regular people (specifically touching them) so it seems to be something different. I wonder if it maybe has to do with Bran being a greenseer and doing it at the right place/right time.

I said this pages ago, but it was at the bottom of a page so probably missed.
I really wonder if Bran was in the past when he was touched. The white walkers seemed like they were just waiting for something. Bran then shows up and is touched by the Nights King. This in my mind explains how they showed up so quickly at the tree. This whole time they've been going their knowing that is where Bran will be. Bran himself might have been the catalyst that started the winter. They need him to be touched.
