Average adoption costs 20-50k, that the couple has to pay for themselves.
Clomid/IUI is mostly covered by my insurance and not crazy invasive, why not try it first?
I have a friend that just adopted, it's a very emotionally draining process. The interview process is very intense. If you have ANY black marks in your past....they will bring it up and try to use it against you as a reason why you shouldn't adopt. Her husband foreclosed on his house during 2008 and the housing disaster here in PHX.....they kept throwing that in his face as well. Luckily they were able to still adopt but she said it's certainly not the "easiest" option as many try to make it to be. And....there is always the risk that it falls through if one of the bio parents changes their mind. And it's not like you get a refund when that happens.

Wow, had no idea it was that much. I've never had kids, had a gf who lost the pregnancy 2 years ago, so I have no idea how that compares to the actual medical cost of a childbirth. Or out of pocket things a good insurance may not cover etc.
