Like I said, drink what YOU like. Imagine this though, you are at a business dinner discussing a possible deal. One guy orders an Old Fashioned, guy to the left orders a Silver Oak Cab, the next guy orders an 18 year old Scotch, chick to the left orders a White wine, next guy orders a Bourbon and Branch, you order a White Russian (half and half please, no milk).

Fortunately I drink in other settings where I can embarrass myself with a satisfying white russian.

Only someone Beta thinks like this. I order whatever I feel like sounds good, and I can tell you most of the time I order a white russian someone else changes their order and gets one too.
You don't drink White Russians as an aperitif, you drink they as a digestif. Most of those you listed are before dinner drinks. You should drink a dry drink before dinner to stimulate your appetite and something sweet after to (in theory) aid in digestion. There is nothing girly about a good brandy, port, white russian, sweet dessert wine, etc after a nice dinner.
I can tell you, that if you are at dinner with someone that really matters and they order a White Russian it doesn't change your opinion one bit. They are ordering like a boss and dont GAF.
