I agree with this. I don't mind the contract numbers and I am sure they wanted to appease Armstead who isn't making much, but I would have made him play out the year and then given him an extra $1-2M per/yr next offseason.

You save money by making him play out the last bargain year of the rookie contract and there are no LT's that are going to reset the market in 2017.

ETA - I understand the main part of getting him extended is to have certainty and to ensure that a playerwho has significantly outplayed his contract the last couple of years remains happy.
