says who? he played out this year, saints ARE tagging him for 2017, he'd have to play that year out and that would be the comps he would be gauging his value that year to determine his market value. That's exactly what you have to compare this deal to to truly understand that value of.

He wasn't going to play on the tag. We don't leave guys on the tag (I'm trying to recall anytime under Loomis we have done that).
He would have been tagged but eventually would work out a long term deal next year. At most it would have been around $14 mil per. Saving $1 mil per year on a big contract is a bargain, not a steal.
