You can do little to nothing to alter your modem settings. Even firmware upgrades have to be managed by Cox. I don't know what, if anything, would make the CM600 perform better (ignoring number of downstream channels) than another modem. It's fairly new, and it's actually better to go with an older, more established modem that's been deployed long enough to have undergone several firmware updates and wider adoption (still keeping specs in mind, obviously).

I got the surf board. I called cox to make sure I have all my stuff ready to try and swap it out later tonight. Turns out they offer an upgrade ot the modem...the exact same one that I got today lol.

Interesting tidbit...after calling cox and telling them I was going to be hooking up the 16x4 tonight I got a email that seemed like my ultimate package was removed. So I called to ask wtf was that. Guy on the phone told me that he saw me on the 150 package and that it was just changed to the 300 package for the same price. So I dont know what I am going to be getting 150-200-300...but im paying $99 for it
