This will probably be very effective considering it will be a small class of players, with just the draft picks and UDFA guys.

The undrafted guys are already behind the 8-ball, as they get an incredibly small amount of reps. They need any kind of rep that they can get, even if it's shorts and helmet practice.
I still think this is a novel idea, but the UDFA will not like it. Most of them don't have much of a chance anyway, but they aren't going into it thinking that they will likely be cut.
