Signed the Civil Rights Act?

And the Vietnam War really picked up and went to hell then too. Not a good thing, but definitely important to study.

Great Society created the modern welfare state and spawned generations who would be trapped by dependency in poverty via use of entitlements.

Civil Rights Act destroyed the rights of business owners to refuse service and choose who to hire and fire. This spawned the massive growth of HR departments and helped fan the fires of the rising litigious society. While the act certainly id help to ease race relations in some respects, it has also had many unintended consequences which have completely eroded the rights of property owners and fanned the flames of racial animosity via Affirmative Action.

LBJ went full bore into the Vietnam War while attempting to fight it in a politically correct manner. 50,000 U.S. soldiers would go on to die...for nothing.

He literally signed into law modern america, warts and all. Whether one believes that that was good or bad, no one will deny that it was not important.
