Crab Grass

Can somebody give me some tips on how to get rid of this stuff.
I went crazy and dug all of it up and put down new sod about a month ago, and it's coming back.
What can I do or spray on this crap to make it go away forever?

I think I have a mix of centipede and St. Aug.

What is your primary lawn grass? This makes the biggest differnce in what you use to kill the crab grass.
As mentioned above, MSMA is good for use on bermuda grass. However, if you have centipede grass....DO NOT use that product.

I have primarily centipede. When I dug up a bunch of the crab grass, I put down St. Aug (couldn't find centipede sod).
I was told they would just run together and one would take over the other, but don't remember which...
I'm impulsive, so in hindsight, I should have waited to dig up the crabgrass until I knew I could get some centipede. But I guess I'm not that smart.
The areas where there crabgrass is reappearing is all centipede Fwiw.

Your local co-op and possibly tractor supply. I get mine at a local feed store in town.

My yard is a mixture of Centipede and Bermuda, but they are in seperate sections, so it's really like two different lawns
I'm guessing this setho stuff for the centipede and MSMA for the bermuda section would do well? Do i spot treat it or spray the whole area?

That sethoxydim is a selective herbicide that kills only grasses.. It's good for spraying grasses in vegetable gardens and flower beds...but if you did spray it it'd be a spot treatment... shits expensive for the amount you get.. at our local store its $25 for 8oz. If you are spot treating I'd just spray it with roundup being you're going to kill your existing grass within the area your spraying the crabgrass anyway..Or any other non-selective herbicide... If you have thin bladed grass (Bermuda or zoysia) MSMA and if you can wait until daytime temps are in the mid 90's it will kill that crap quick.
If you have centipede it will kill your grass, but then you can put Bermuda in for a beautiful lawn.

Don't spray sethoxydim on St Aug. Use Tenacity(mesotrione)
Are you sure it is crabgrass this time of year? It is a little early yet.

Just started seeing crabgrass this week. Gonna wait a few more days to let the blades get a little higher then spray msma.

I've been fighting with it as well. I have centipede too.
Still don't know if the undesirable grass is POA Bluegrass or crab grass.

Sethoxydim is fine to spray on centipede grass lawns. I'm currently using it to suppress a torpedo grass infestation.
However, on spot treatment the roundup would be a much cheaper and to the point option as you mentioned. When I use roundup (glyphosate) on spot treatment, I'm very very careful to minimize non target grass.

When having a mixed lawn, the complexity of weed infestations are compounded. I don't know if it's possible without looking at your lawn, but I would try to push for a one grass or the other if it were me. I understand that may be out of the question and if so then what you mentioned about using the two different herbicides on each specific grass may be your best bet. Spot treat at first and see what kind of results you get.

where do you get your msma from
Posted on 4/27/16 at 7:44 pm to blueboxer1119
My whole yard is crab grass. You just have to mow it more often but when its really short it looks very nice.

I Disagree. It's wet as frick, stinks when cut and looks like shite.

Crab grass is shitty, its clumpy and crappy.
If you think it looks good you do not have crab grass.
