You're right. There IS a difference between an MLB player and pro/minor league player.
But, kids still leave college when they're drafted, even if they aren't drafted in high rounds.
Some truly aspire to be MLBers and some simply want to get out of school to wear their big boy pants.
Kramer was 268 in one preseason prospect list, which would convert to about a 9-10th round pick.

or some generally capitalize on whatever leverage they have, get the max signing bonus possible, play ball for a few years, then start their careers outside of baseball.
