Mezcal is something I definitely cannot get into.

Just grabbed a decent bottle for sipping recently, and it frustrates me to hear it's becoming popular.

Start with a solid mezcal cocktail...if you don't like the smokiness it brings to the drink, yeah, you'll never like it.

If you like the cocktail and decide to give it a shot straight, make sure to make yourself a sangrita to go with it. Sometimes fruit based, sometimes tomato based, it's like a chaser that highlights the flavors of the tequila/mezcal. I've never been to Mexico, but apparently sangrita is very ubiquitous anywhere people are drinking tequila.

Speaking of Mezcal my son went to Mexico city and went to some artisan Mezcal producer and brought these back. They are stunningly good.

I’m just not a fan of smoke infused drinks. My FIL did share a “nice” sipping Mezcal with me recently and it was decent, but it’s just not for me. Same reason why I’m not really into peated scotches.
